AMAZE Balance Board

AMAZE Balance Board

Green Concept Award Winner 2024

Interactive balance board that transforms balance training into gameplay. Users control a ball through a maze by shifting their weight, combining core workout with engaging challenge.

Developed in collaboration with Sigma Connectivity, Lund, over 12 weeks as a team of three designers. The project was exhibited at Milan Furniture Fair, Eindhoven Dutch Design Week, and Malmö Design Days. My role focused on concept development, prototyping, and user testing.

The board supports both solo practice and multiplayer collaboration, where teams must coordinate their movements to navigate the maze together. Different maze patterns provide progressive difficulty levels, keeping users engaged beyond the initial challenge. The physical dimensions and tilt angle were carefully calibrated through multiple test iterations to ensure safety while maintaining an engaging challenge. Tested with over a 100 users across multiple age groups during the exhibitions.

Working with Sigma Connectivity’s brief on “energy as input,” we explored ways to make users the active sensors of an experience. Through prototyping various concepts, the balance board emerged as the strongest solution for combining physical activity with engaging gameplay.

The maze element solved a key challenge: traditional balance boards lose appeal once users master the basic movement. By adding progressive challenges, we created sustained engagement while delivering genuine fitness benefits.

Exhibited at two major design fairs with positive reception across age groups. Users engaged naturally, often returning for multiple attempts and collaborative play. Applicable in gyms, schools, rehabilitation centers, and community spaces.
